Social Media has pretty much invaded nearly every industry. Public relations practitioners in order to engage their audiences the best possible way, now have to to tweak and change their strategies.
The way we communicate and share information have changed and has evolved to social media, online and videos. Our consumers are using this mediums and in order to get their attention, we must be in the same arena.
There are 3 ways in which social media has influenced the PR industry:
- Two way communication
PR practitioners are able to connect with their audiences on a casual level inspiring conversation, engagement and most importantly feedback. In this digital age, feedback drives businesses actions and consumers are not afraid to be real.
2. Constant engagement
Social media allows PR practitioner to reach their audiences anywhere and at anytime. Gone are the days that they would have to wait on scheduled programs on TV or radio to get their message across.
3. New Landscape
The mix of social media and traditional PR like media releases and articles are no longer dependent on whether the story is relevant. If its not released via traditional channels, social media will do the rest.
I expect more changes in the industry as social media continues to gain momentum. Can you think of any other changes that social media has made to PR? Let me know in the comment section.
